STATE CAPITOL
210 CAPITOL AVENUE
HARTFORD, CT 06106
Dear Governor Molloy,
Over the past few years we have had many devastating events happen in our state and in our country. The sandy hook mass-murder for one took a toll on everyone especially ones who lived in Connecticut. Everywhere in the world we have people like Adam Lanza and if we don’t do something about it and show people like him that it’s no joke, it will keep happening. In 2012 Connecticut repealed the capital punishment and I strongly believe you should re-consider this.
The death penalty is the best way to insure we stop such heinous crimes in our state. A criminal with a mind to kill would not care to stay in jail for the rest of their life. They are insured food, a place to sleep, and clothes. With capital punishment they know they will die, and knowing this in the back of their head could easily change the mind of an evil citizen. People who want to murder mostly want to do it to sense a form of power, but with the death penalty they are therefore defeated because they no longer get to live. Although the death penalty is very costly to have, it is just as expensive to have them live in jail for the rest of their lives which could cause overcrowding in prisons forcing us to have to build more, a very costly and time consuming process. Governor, think about if your kids, or even a family member or your wife. If they were put to death for no reason, you would want that person to suffer just as much as your loved one had to, and no one would have to worry about them coming back to haunt them. The death penalty would solve everyone’s problems because we wouldn’t have to live in fear and we could potentially stop these heinous crimes from happening over and over again.
Sure we could let them live their life out in jail to never see the world again and yes they might have a mental problem, but these people should be getting help. There is no excuse for someone to harm others for no reason and the only way to stop this is bringing back capital punishment. Everybody has their own preconceived ideas about this subject but we would be doing everyone a favor by not letting villains live in our world any longer.
When something major happens in our world we all are sad about it for a couple days and then we go on with our lives like nothing ever happened. If we think about the Sandy Hook families they will never be able to get over what happened to them and constantly think to themselves, “why us?” Something needs to be done about this, if we keep moving on and forgetting about things like a mass murder it will continue to occur. These people need to be put to death and with a threat above their head like getting sentenced to death it will definitely help our state life in peace. I ask you to please take this into consideration, Governor, it is scary for a citizen to go on with life knowing we have killers still alive and in jail able to still live their life when they should not have the privilege to. Just as Mike Royko says, “It's because I have so much regard for human life that I favor capital punishment. Murder is the most terrible crime there is. Anything less than the death penalty is an insult to the victim and society. It says…that we don't value the victim's life enough to punish the killer fully."
Sincerely,
Jacqueline Connors
